New Discussion: Do We Really Need a Map?

I read in DesignTAXI that Adweek has created a map that points out the top advertising agency in each state. It is titled “The United States of Ad Agencies.” The agencies that were applied to the map were picked based on “a combination of head count, notable clients, legacy and reputation”. 

My question is: wouldn’t a simple list be more effective – and less confusing?

Obviously, someone had a lot of time on their hands.
